Aline Black was the plaintiff in a lawsuit that challenged unequal pay for teachers.

Aline Black taught science for Norfolk County Public Schools. After learning that she made much less than white teachers, Black sued the school system. In 1940 the Supreme Court ruled that teacher's salaries were protected by the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment and should be equal regardless of race.
